Finally a Robin, but no blackbirds today!

Very strange not to see or hear even 1 blackbird, but there was a robin on the feeders today, that was a nice surprise!

  1. Blue Tit x 1
  2. Carrion crow x 1
  3. Dunnock x 4 – they were really into a spring fling today, as the weather was beautiful and sunny here in Edinburgh
  4. Long-tailed tit x 2
  5. Magpie x 3
  6. Robin x 1
  7. Starlings x 5
  8. Woodpigeon x 2

A very grey day today in Edinburgh, spent inside playing Halo on the Xbox

I didn’t get a lot of bird watching today, just when I was outside with Chewie (my dog) as there’s a free Xbox 360 Live Gold weekend in the UK  Free Xbox LIVE Gold Weekend March 8th to 10th 2013 in the UK and because I can’t afford a gold membership I’ve been taking advantage of it (not good for my carpal tunnel!).  And of course the Rugby was on today, bit disappointed with the Scottish game today, but 18 points, all penalty kicks, was still decent for Scotland.

However I did get out a few times and managed to spot a few birds and I saw the Long-tailed tits every time I was outside today, hopefully it means they’re sticking around the garden somewhere.  That’d be great, they’re also very happy with me being 2 meters away from them, very happy with that, my have to get my camera out soon!

Here’s my bird list for day.

  1. Blackbird x – I think there was singing at about 4.30am, however not 100% sure if it was a blackbird, anyone got a good recording?
  2. Carrion crow x 4 – fly overs
  3. Coal Tit x 1
  4. Long-tailed tit x 2
  5. Magpie x 1
  6. Starlings x 9 – flyovers
  7. Woodpigeon x 1

Been away for a few days & indoors so haven’t seen a lot.

Hi all, sorry for the slow updates, I’ve been away for the past few days and haven’t really had a chance to see many birds, here’s my list:

Sunday morning, my garden:

  1. Blackbird x 2
  2. Dunnock x 1
  3. Magpie x 1

Sunday Birmingham airport:

  1. Kestrel x 1 – first for the year.
  2. Starlings x 2

Monday was indoors all day and saw nothing

Tuesday managed to see about 20 pigeons flying past hotel window before heading to the Focus On Imaging halls at the NEC Birmingham, but after that nothing for the rest of the day.  Tomorrow should get back to normal with hopefully a good list of garden birds.

Terrible list for today!

I was glad to see 6 starlings at the end of today as there’d only been 2 woodpigeons earlier, the day was hectic again, my carpal tunnel is getting better and I’ve started working on the Australian version of finance site Saver Scene – Saver Scene Australia (now closed as I move into gardening as a profession) again as I’d taken a lot of time off to try and get my hands to heal. As well as the workmen still putting in the new central heating system so no access to the back garden again and only looked out the front and had 2 sightings. there were gulls high up and I couldn’t identify them, so this is it for today:

  1. Starlings x 6 – flying over their roost in the beautiful sunset.
  2. Woodpigeon x 2 – they were really into spring activity!

Starlings zigged & zagged through the sky, garden bird list.

I’ve had a very busy day today, we’re getting a new central heating system put in and it’s been a bit hectic, I did have time to do Monday updates on ISA, Savings and Credit Cards and to put together the list of 100 best plants for attracting wildlife to your garden.  I also manage to get out and see a few birds in or over the garden, including 13 starlings that I got to watch for about 10 minutes as they zigged and zagged  through the sky, diving in close and checking their roosting place then flicking back into the sky high over the roost, watching it from every angle, amazing to watch, I hope to one day see one of the huge murmurations as seen in Wexford.

Here’s the list of the birds I did have the fortune to see today:

  1. Blackbird x 1
  2. Blue Tit x 1
  3. Carrion crow x 3 fly overs
  4. Chaffinch x 1
  5. Dunnock x 1
  6. Magpie x 2 fly overs
  7. Starlings x 13
  8. Woodpigeon x 5

The Tesco Robin is back and a new species for my year list.

The other day I added the Robin in Corstorphine Tesco – 4th of February 2013 – I was down there last night, not sure if it was after midnight but my guess is it would have been or very close so I’ve added it to today’s list.  In good news I have finally managed to add Starlings to my list for the year.

  1. Blackbird x 1
  2. Chaffinch x 2
  3. Dunnock x 1
  4. House Sparrow x 3
  5. Magpie x 1
  6. Starlings x 5 – fly overs
  7. Woodpigeon x 3

At Tesco Corstorphine:

  1. Robin x 1

Hopefully the starlings will start to show in the garden rather than just flying over, and I get chances to photograph them like this:
